The maltipoo is a small toy dog that has alot of names . Maltipoo, maltepoo, maltapoo, multipoo, malt-i-poo, malt-apoo, maltese-poodle ,maltdoodle ,maltoodle and in Europe sometimes called the Moodle .
Alot of people refer to the Maltipoo as a Mutt or designer dog . Some as a Hybrid .
It is true the Maltipoo is not a purebreed . It is a crossbreed .
Breeders have name the Maltipoo different names and sometimes this is confusing to the public . And at this time there is no one correct spelling of it .

North American Maltipoo Club ...maltepoo,maltipoo,maltapoo
Some hybrid clubs use the spelling ..Maltapoo or Malt-a-poo
And Dog Registry of America uses ...Malt-i-poo
Do not be confused , all these spellings are of the SAME Hybrid Dog . And in all clubs except the Maltipoo Club the registration is listed as Michellenous ,not as a breed or reconized breed . A Maltipoo is not a 'breed ' specific . There are no Standards as there is none that would actually fit .
The Maltipoo is an offspring of the Purebred Maltese and Poodle . This is called 1st generation Maltipoos .
The maltipoo can also be the offspring of 2 maltipoos .That would be called second generation and so forth .

The Maltipoo is the combination of two very different purebreeds .
The Maltese ...a happy little dog , covered in hair from head to foot . Originally hailed from the Island of Malta . Somtimes stubborn and shows no fear .
The Poodle ...The Poodle comes in three sizes ..Standard , Minature and Toy .Very people oriented and loves to hunt .The poodle is also very protectiveof those they love.
These traits and more are combined in the Maltipoo .
Generally they are happy ,people friendly , fearless little go getters with lots of loyality towards those of their family .And they do consider the people that own them their family .
Looks in a Maltipoo can differ greatly .They can have the silky soft feel of the Maltese and the curley look of the Poodle .
They can have the more coarse hair of the Poodle and the straight look of the Maltese or a combination of both ( more often than not ) .
Size varies alot as adults because of the Poodle history in the genes . According to the Poodle parent and the history behind it is how large your maltipoo can get .
Once a Poodle breeds a Maltese ,the gene pool opens , from that gene pool the maltipoo chooses size ,color ,coat and much more .
So you may have a Maltipoo from a toy Poodle and the maltipoo can get up to 20 lbs .Why ? Because in the Toy Poodle history is the Minature Poodle and the Standard and the genes are there to pull from for any puppy .
So ,coat , look , size ,color can and is very different from one Maltipoo to another ,even in the same litter .

The maltipoo is called a hybrid .Low shedding and hypoallergenic .
Hybrid means ...more sturdy ,less genetic defects and larger than . So a Maltipoo tends to be larger than the parents . More sturdy build means less apt to hurt easy by picking up or dropping . Les genetic defects means a breeder should screeen their dogs for genetic defects before breeding so that they are not passed to the Maltipoo . Any dog can inherit any genetic defect the motehr or father or even a distant relative has had . What breeding crossbreeds helps to do is to open what is called a closed gene pool of the purebreeds and therefore try and retain less risks for genetic defects . Most genetic experts say teh gtreatest strenth in this is in first generation and some is in 2nd generation animals .
This is done to improve cattle ,goats ,horses and even chickens ' health and lives .Breeders must be very careful when breeding 2nd generation maltipoos as not to breed relatiev to relative and downsizing is not advised in crossbreeding .It defeats the purpose of 'hybrid vigor ' .
Still there are going to be some issues
luxating patella ( most toy toys ) , runny eyes ( most toy dogs ) , some have skin issues and other .
No dog is completely hypoallergenic .Do not listen to those that say it is true .Everyone has different allergies ,you could not be allergenic to coat issues but could be allergenic to the salavia or even to a particular food or shampoo that is on the pet .
Low shedding ...Maltipoos are considered low shedders . They do not shed their coats but when you brush them ,hair will be in the brush the same as when you brush your own hair .
